Christenings
If you live in our parish or have an acceptable family connection then it may be possible for us to arrange a christening (also known as a baptism) service at one of our churches. If you live outside the parish we would expect you to consider having the service there and to have contacted your local vicar.
Whilst most of our baptisms are for children; one of our clergy team will expect to meet with any potential adult candidates as part of the process.
-
Baptisms usually take place on a Sunday after the 10.30am morning service at St Andrew’s church. Services may take place at St Nicholas church by request.
-
As we have many Christening requests there may be more than one family at the same service.
-
We expect parents and godparents to attend a Baptism preparation session with the officiating priest in the preceding months.
-
There a small charge per candidate to cover administrative costs and fees (payable before the service). There is a collection plate at the service for donations.
Someone who was baptised as a child may later wish to affirm the decision and promises made on their behalf by their parents and godparents. This is done at a Confirmation service; these are held a few times each year – please get in touch if you’d like to find out more.
