Who's who?

Please find below an introduction to our church leaders and staff members.
Dover Team Rector
Revd Melissa Carter
Team Vicar

We are currently in vacancy following the departure of our Team Rector. Details of this will be posted as the recruitment process proceeds.

Melissa felt called to be a priest in her late teens but before training was encouraged to get some life experience. After working as a legal secretary Melissa was ordained in 2016 and joined the Dover Town Team in September 2019. Melissa is married to Antony and accompanied most places by her guide dog Zoe. In their spare time they enjoy walking and exploring the countryside.
Melissa has particular pastoral responsibility for St Martins Dover and will be working across the team to offer support and encouragement in developing a prayerful life within the community and spiritual growth within families.

Revd Josias de Souza
Mission Priest
  Revd Sean Sheffield
Assistant Curate
Josias joined the Dover Town Team from the Diocese of Recife in Brazil.  Ordained in 2004, he served as minister in charge of children’s and youth ministry in a large city church in which he saw a group of 10 teenagers grow to some 300 every Sunday evening.  He then served on the staff of Recife Cathedral implementing strategy and developing new mission projects.

He is accompanied by his wife Danielle and their children Daniel  and Leticia.

Josias oversees mission and evangelism throughout the Dover Town Team of Churches but also has particular pastoral responsibility for a new afternoon congregation.

Sean joined the team in 2017, and was ordained Priest in 2018 as he continues his training to be a Vicar, having spent time at Trinity College, Bristol. Before he felt called to ministry he managed the UK and European Call Centres for a premium audio brand and enjoyed building teams that had a community feel within them.
Sean is married to Ruth, has 2 children and a wonderfully crazy Dalmatian called Angel. He is a cycling enthusiast, although doesn't get out and about as much as he would like which is in part due to the massive hills surrounding Dover!

Nigel Collins

Nigel is married to Anne, with 5 children and 6 grandchildren.

Nigel has particular responsibility for the Sunday congregation at St Andrew's and the Friday (Messy Church) congregation at St Nicholas.
